Referee Feedback and Education
The Director of the Oregon Referee Committee is very excited about our referee program, and he has offered to provide additional training.  We are looking to hold this training in conjunction with our payment meeting.  As part of our effort to help us all out, I will be e-mailing each head coach asking for positive and negative feedback.  These will be reviewed by the coordinators and then shared with the respective referee.

If you have suggestions or questions, please e-mail Anthony Vander Meide at anthony@vandermeide.net

Becoming a referee is great for leadership development, it's also a great way to earn some money.

If you are interested in becoming a MYSA referee, send Anthony Vander Meide a note at anthony@vandermeide.net, and he will add you to the list.  We plan to host a USSF Grade 8 Referee course in the Spring or early Summer in 2010.

So, now that you have finally made the decision to become a registered soccer referee and now you want to know what’s involved.  It’s pretty straight forward.

You need to go through our training program and pass a written test at the end to confirm that you know the basics.  People of all ages do it all of the time, so it’s quite doable if you apply yourself.
Entry-Level Grade 8

The classes are typically held on 4 evenings or sometimes over a weekend for a total of 18 hours.  There is a $35.00 fee for taking the course, to cover the cost of the instructor and the class materials.
If you pass the test, then you’ll be eligible to register as a Grade 8 referee with the United States Soccer Federation.  The registration fee is $40.00 and is separate from the course fee.  You’ll need to register with the USSF to be able to referee OYSA youth games and OASA adult games.

You normally have to be at least 13 to take the Entry-Level Grade 8 course, but you can request the State Director of Instruction to consider waiving this requirement in special circumstances.

HOW TO REGISTER:
